In early November, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, HR 4916, was introduced in the House of Representatives by 44 original cosponsors led by Reps. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., and Dan Newhouse, R-Wash. This bill takes a positive step forward towards addressing our longstanding labor concerns. HR 4916 is the result of months of conversations between Democrats, Republicans, farm labor groups and ag groups. In short, this bill would provide a process to retain our existing employees and a pathway to recruit new workers for our dairies. However, there are certain aspects of the bill that are not ideal so your input is needed as this bill moves through the legislative process.
