Now representing more than 10 billion pounds of milk, Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative has become the No. 4 top dairy cooperative in the country.
The ranking is made by Hoard’s Dairyman, which has reported its top 50 cooperatives list every year since 1986. Edge’s mark represents 2017 numbers, when its members produced 10.14 billion pounds of milk.
Edge has been in the top 10 on the list since reaching No. 9 in 2013. In 2015, the co-op jumped to the No. 6 spot and then moved to No. 5 in 2016.
“The co-op was built upon a foundation of added value the cooperative could offer farmers,” said Edge Executive Director Tim Trotter. “Edge continues to grow and lead the way in giving every farmer a strong voice in Congress, with customers and in their community. Our growth is evidence that farmers value the work Edge is doing on their behalf. We are ‘the voice of milk.’”
Edge, which was established in 2010 as a verification cooperative, has member farms of all sizes in eight states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin, where it is headquartered.
Formerly called Dairy Business Milk Marketing Cooperative, the co-op was renamed in 2017.
