Saying and showing: Artwork emphasizes policy priorities

Edge took this to a whole new level at Dairy Strong 2018, capturing the voices of our members and others in the dairy community in a graphic that came together as a work of art.
Several themes were interwoven throughout the artwork. One topic that became clear was political advocacy, with members of the dairy community reiterating the importance of issues Edge is working on each day to represent your voice in Washington, D.C.
“Political advocacy is key,” one attendee said.
This is just one way Edge is working for you — amplifying your voice on Capitol Hill.
Immigration and the farm bill were mentioned many times. Be assured, we continue to work on both of these issues through one-on-one meetings with lawmakers, as well as through broad coalitions of stakeholders. Both issues are heavy lifts and will not be achieved without teamwork.
“The role of government is not writing checks, but helping farmers manage risk,” an Edge member told us.
That risk is lowered when market opportunities increase. We continue to push for trade agreements and access to foreign markets where the demand for high-quality protein is growing.
Increasing the demand from our customers was another topic, one we also embrace. This will be achieved through both domestic and international demand.
Sustainability includes maintaining top-quality animal care and producing fresh, nutritious food. It also relates to growth and the question that many farmers ask themselves – “Is the next generation going to be able to survive like I did?”
