Seven of our member farmers (pictured) and several staff members are in Washington D.C. to meet with federal lawmakers and agency leaders about the needs of our farmers.
We are working alongside our new D.C.-based consultant Michael Torrey & Associates, whose lobbying team has deep connections to agriculture and vast experience in the dealings of the federal government.
In all, we are holding 24 meetings with officials in 24 hours to explain the challenges our farmers face each day while working hard to create the safe and nutritious milk that feeds so many people in the U.S. and other countries. For you to maintain this critical food supply and your businesses, regulations need to be sensible and practical.
The key issues we are raising:
- A sustainable workforce
- Trade and more access to foreign markets
- Highly functional federal dairy programs
- Protection and promotion of dairy products
- Environmental regulation and sustainable innovation
As you know, there is a lot at stake and we need to make sure lawmakers and others understand how crucial these issues are to our farmers.
Your voices need to be heard and we are proud to be ensuring this.
Also, rest assured that beyond today we will continue to work aggressively on your behalf and with your help.
