Farmers: Jerry and Brad Zander
Barneveld, Wis.

When was your farm established?

Our farm was established in 1968 when Jerry’s dad bought the farm.

How long have you shipped to Klondike Cheese?

Since the early 1980’s .

How many cows do you milk?

How many family members work on the farm?

Jerry and Brad are the only full-time employees.

How many employees do you have?
We have several part-time employees that help with milking and field work.

What is some interesting technology that you use around the farm?

We are in the process of installing three Lely robotic milkers. We hope to be up and running by July 4, 2017. We can milk up to 180 cows with these 3 robots. We also utilize GPS technology on our planter and sprayer.

Brick and muenster cheese, Odyssey Greek Yogurt and Odyssey Feta Cheese at Klondike Cheese.

What it your favorite dairy product?
Brad – Ice cream
Jerry – Muenster cheese

Where do you see the future of your farm?

We are continually evolving for the next generation. We may expand a little bit for a fourth robot that we have planned for with the new building plans. We hope to utilize even more technology in the future.

What is your favorite job on the farm?
Brad – I enjoy the technology we use for the field work. I am really interested in all the data you can collect and track.

Jerry – Working with the cows. Making sure they are eating, helping sick cows feel better, and walking the herd daily.

What are you most proud of?
Brad – We are very open to explaining to customers and fellow farmers about our practices. We strive to be transparent and open our farm to visitors. We expect this to happen even more once the robots are up and running.

Jerry – Longevity of the farm. We have been farming in this location for 50+ years. We have strived to improve our herd’s production over time and we produce high-quality milk.

Is there someone that has influenced you and your farm’s success?

Jerry’s father/Brad’s grandfather was a big influence on our success. Our nutritionist has been a great asset for improving our herd’s production. Jerry has several brothers that work in engineering and finance and they have been a big help throughout the process of adding the robotic milkers.

What is something you think is important for customers to know about your dairy farm?
We produce a quality and wholesome product. Our cows’ health and comfort are our main priority.
